The 2026 report card

Supermove vs SuperSmart Moving

We ran both CRMs side by side on real San Diego moves for a year and a half, then graded every category A through F. Yes, we make SuperSmart, so read with that in mind. We kept the grades honest anyway, including the three categories Supermove wins.

Supermove GPA
2.98
SuperSmart GPA
3.72
How we graded

SuperSmart was built inside a working San Diego moving company, and that company kept an active Supermove account and a SuperSmart account running in parallel: over 1,400 projects, 700+ completed moves, storage customers on autopay, damage claims, the works. Every grade below comes from using both products on the same real jobs, not from a demo. Where Supermove is better, we say so, because a comparison that scores a shutout for the home team is an ad, and you already know how to ignore ads.

The report card

Twelve categories, both platforms, graded like your transcript. The note under each grade is the why.

Sales pipeline and lead management
A-
Supermove
Mature pipeline with holds, tags, referral tracking, per-project comments, and a task queue. Little to criticize.
A
SuperSmart
Same pipeline coverage plus hot-lead flags, duplicate detection, follow-ups with multi-assignee reminders, and web leads that land in seconds with anti-spam filtering.
Quote building and proposals
B
Supermove
Billing libraries and proposals work, but building a multi-option quote takes more clicks than it should, and editing feels like forms, not a tool.
A
SuperSmart
Tabbed multi-option quotes with a starred default the customer lands on, drag-and-drop line items across days, flat or percent deposits with per-project-type defaults, ranges, California NTE math, and one-keystroke job templates.
Customer portal
B-
Supermove
Functional proposal page: view, sign, pay. It gets the job done and looks like it was designed once, a while ago.
A
SuperSmart
Brand-matched light and dark mode, signature plus deposit in one flow, valuation coverage picker, route maps, consultant profiles with real signatures, and the signed quote auto-archived as a PDF on the account.
Day-of operations (dispatch, crew, tablet)
A-
Supermove
The strongest part of Supermove. Truck slots, a Live view with driving status and ETAs on a map, GPS-verified timesheets.
B+
SuperSmart
Full dispatch board, mover tablet with signed BOLs and photos, GPS tracking, crew hours and tips. What it lacks is Supermove's single live map screen; day-of status lives on the dispatch board instead.
Storage
B+
Supermove
Storage projects, container tracking, recurring invoices with autopay. Solid.
A-
SuperSmart
The same core (containers, recurring billing, autopay) plus printable container labels and barcode scanning from a phone.
Billing, invoices, and payments
A-
Supermove
Invoices with terms and exports, payment batches, disputes, employee and contractor payroll, vendor balances. The deepest accounting stack of the two.
B+
SuperSmart
Automatic invoices at job completion, overdue reminders, payment requests, day-of billing rules, deposit and final-balance checkout. Payroll and accounting exports are lighter than Supermove's.
Automations and integrations
B+
Supermove
A broad event catalog (quotes, jobs, GPS, storage autopay) with SMS, task, and webhook actions. Genuinely flexible.
B+
SuperSmart
Event automations with filters and delays, inbound and outbound webhooks, form integrations, Stripe, Twilio, SendGrid, and a one-click importer that migrates your Supermove history.
Marketing
D
Supermove
Referral-source tracking and not much else. There is no campaign, segmentation, or nurture tooling in the product.
A
SuperSmart
A full marketing suite: campaigns, customer segments, automated journeys, reply handling, templates, and a review funnel. This category is not close.
Reporting
A-
Supermove
A real report library across sales, operations, storage, payroll, and revenue, with saved filters.
B
SuperSmart
Dashboards, team stats, quote-accuracy tracking, and per-job profit with crew costs. Fewer canned reports; the library is still growing.
AI and how calls get answered
B
Supermove
The flagship is an AI call center: a voice agent answers and books your calls. It is real, it is an add-on with add-on pricing, and it means a robot greets your customers.
A
SuperSmart
A deliberate choice, not a gap: a real person answers the phone. Moving is a trust business, and a nervous customer with a two-story piano wants a human, not a bot. AI does the invisible work here (parsing leads, drafting replies) while people do the talking.
Speed, polish, and pace of change
B-
Supermove
A large SPA that carries its age in places. Feature requests route through a CSM and a roadmap.
A
SuperSmart
Fast pages, 410 automated tests on every change, and over 1,100 shipped commits in the last three and a half months. Bugs reported by movers get fixed the same day, not the next quarter.
Price and ownership
C
Supermove
Custom-quoted pricing that commonly lands at four figures a month, annual contracts, closed source. You rent it.
A
SuperSmart
Open source (AGPL): self-host free, forever. The hosted Sustaining Partner tier is $1,999 a year. Your data model is inspectable and yours.

Under the hood

One of these platforms publishes its source code, so its numbers are measured, not estimated. The other is closed, so we can only describe what is publicly known.

Supermove (observed from their live app, Aug 2026)
  • Closed source. A React 16.13 single-page app (a 2020 release, three major versions behind) served as static files from AWS S3 / CloudFront, talking to a GraphQL API
  • The browser downloads roughly 24 MB of JavaScript up front (one big Apollo GraphQL bundle, 660+ operations) - which is why it can feel heavy
  • Crew app is React Native and Android-only - it is on Google Play but not on the Apple App Store, so no iPads
  • Payments through Stripe and Authorize.Net/NMI; SMS and voice on Twilio; Segment and Amplitude tracking your every click; QuickBooks import built in
  • Custom-quoted pricing sold through demos and annual contracts; onboarding via a customer success manager
  • Test coverage and release cadence: not published
SuperSmart Moving (measured from source, Aug 2026)
  • 97 screens in the office app, tablet, and portals
  • 226 API endpoints, ~156,000 lines of TypeScript
  • 410 automated tests run on every single change
  • 1,100+ production releases since May 2026
  • Next.js, Firestore, Stripe, Twilio, SendGrid, on Vercel
  • Open source (AGPL): audit it, self-host it, or leave with your data
Who you are actually buying from

Supermove is a San Francisco startup founded in 2019 that raised $18M (Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Founders Fund and angels from DoorDash, Slack, and Scale), runs on a team of around 50 people, and answers to those investors. SuperSmart was built inside a working moving company, for moving companies, and answers to the operators who run it. When you report a bug, one is a support ticket in a queue; the other is a same-day fix from the people who feel the same pain on move day.

What each one is missing

If you pick Supermove, you give up
  • Any marketing tooling: no campaigns, segments, journeys, or review funnel
  • A customer portal your brand actually controls (colors, dark mode, logo treatment)
  • Signed quotes auto-archived to the account as PDFs
  • Container barcode labels and phone scanning for storage
  • Transparent pricing and the ability to self-host or read the code
  • Same-day fixes: changes route through a roadmap
  • Nothing on the phones: their headline AI has a robot greet your customers, where we believe a human should
If you pick SuperSmart, you give up
  • The Live map screen showing every crew's position and ETA at once
  • A vendor payables ledger with running contractor balances
  • Payroll batch depth and packaged accounting exports
  • A big-company vendor with a CSM team, if that reassures you

The verdict

A
Overall pick: SuperSmart Moving (3.72 vs 2.98)

For an owner-operated moving company, roughly 1 to 30 trucks, SuperSmart wins on the things that touch revenue every day: faster quoting, a portal customers actually compliment, marketing that fills next month's calendar, and a price that is not a second rent payment. The pace of improvement is the quiet advantage: this product shipped more than a thousand updates in one summer, with a test suite guarding every one.

The honest exception: if you run a multi-branch operation that lives inside payroll batches and a live fleet map, Supermove's accounting depth earns its price today and you should demo it. And if you genuinely want a robot answering your phone, that is their flagship - we built the opposite on purpose. Everyone else is paying enterprise money for capacity they will never use.
